” Do one thing every day that scares you.”― Eleanor Roosevelt
There are many things that I still want to do in my life. And as the years roll on, if I do not get a move on and take action now, it will be too late.
The older I get, time is running out, I will be 60 this year. If I say it slowly maybe I will believe it. It seems like only yesterday that I was a young woman with babies.
A friend of mine, now in her eighties told me that she may look old on the outside but inside she is 16. Not that I would ever want to be 16 again.
My point is that life passes us by and before you know it half your life is gone with nothing to show for it.
What is the one thing that you dream of doing or being but you don’t quite have the confidence to get started?
Have you always wanted to be a singer but never quite had the courage to get up on that stage?
What about leaving your old boring job and becoming your own boss in your new business? Now that may feel scary but it beats answering to a bully boss for the rest of your life.
Or maybe you are just not getting on with your partner. There is no communication, and sex is off the boil but a safe life is better than leaving for the unknown.
You are living life like a well oiled wheel on a broken bike, still turning each day but going nowhere.
So what’s stopping you?
Let me hazard a guess.
Could it be fear and doubt that stop you progressing in life?
Many of us, me included, have allowed themselves to be held back by fear.
I wish that someone had said to me when I was a child that it was ok to be scared. And that fear is a normal part of life. And go for it anyway.
But no one did.
If fear is holding you back, try to be more specific. Is it a fear of failure?
A fear of failure is often caused by a lack of confidence brought on by a low self-esteem developed in early childhood.
And if fear of failure is stopping you from living the life you want to live then know that there are many people who experience fear of failure too.
Fear of failure, whilst it is a debilitating condition, it is also something that can be helped with coaching, counselling or therapy.
Is fear stopping you from calling for help now?
Learn to embrace your fear. You will never completely eliminate your fear but you need to accept your fear as an essential part of you and move on despite it.
