What I Love About Being a Homemaker: Embracing Fulfillment

Being a homemaker is truly a blessing; it adds a sense of balance and serenity in a fast-paced, modern world.”

I just love the month of November. There’s something about this time of year that makes me naturally reflect and appreciate where I am in life.

Particularly, over the past few days, I’ve been reflecting a bit more about my role as a homemaker. As the Thanksgiving season approaches, I find myself feeling exceptionally grateful for the path that God has put me on.

When I first left the workforce to become a homemaker four years ago, I wasn’t entirely sure that I had made the right decision. In fact, for a brief moment, I felt lost and confused. Now, as the primary caretaker of my home and family, I can’t imagine my life any other way. Serving the people I love through the art of homemaking brings me great fulfillment, especially during the holiday seasons.

Like anything else, being a full-time homemaker has its challenges. But it also has an abundance of rewards. Here are four things I love most about being a homemaker!

1. Slow Mornings

Being a homemaker has enabled me to slow down and appreciate life’s little blessings. Unlike when I worked outside the home, I move at a calmer pace, and I find more beauty in small pleasures.

Fast-paced mornings and long commutes have been replaced with mindful morning routines. Sometimes that includes brewing my favorite herbal teas (or coffee), silent reading, and connecting with nature.

Waking up to slow mornings gives me a relaxed start to each day. I feel like I face each day now with a greater sense of peace, purpose, and gratitude.

2. Being a Homemaker Allows Me to Set My Own Schedule

Another thing I love about being a homemaker is having flexibility with my time. Being able to design my own schedule allows me to prioritize important tasks without feeling overwhelmed.

Having more control of my schedule has positively contributed to my physical and mental well-being; it allows me to carve out time for my personal self-care needs alongside my daily responsibilities.

Because life is ever-changing, I feel at ease knowing I can adjust my schedule and routines when unexpected circumstances arise. Ultimately, as a homemaker, I feel like I’ve gained more control of my time, energy, and life in general.

3. I Add More Value to My Family as a Homemaker

As a homemaker, I actually add more value to my family in many ways. That includes cooking meals from scratch, tidying, managing appointments, shopping, and more. But thankfully, it doesn’t stop there… Because the benefits of being a homemaker aren’t just limited to physical tasks. There are emotional benefits as well.

One of the things I love most about this role is how it has deepened my connection with my family. Not only am I physically available to support my husband and child, but I’m more emotionally available as well.

Over the last four years, I’ve been able to focus on my family with fewer distractions. This has improved the quality of our time together, and thus, allowed us to create more precious memories.

The beauty of being a homemaker is that it doesn’t just create space for me to take better care of others; it also creates space for me to take better care of myself. And as a result… I’m healthier, happier, and more present in the everyday moments with those I love.

4. I Have Freedom to Pursue My Passions

Apart from having space to prioritize my family and enjoy simple pleasures, being a homemaker has offered me freedom to pursue my creative passions.

I’ve always loved writing—and have always wanted it to be much more than a casual hobby. In the past, balancing work and family made it difficult for me to give writing the attention it required. I had to put my creative ambitions on hold to focus on other priorities. However, things have shifted, and writing is now a huge part of my life.

Since becoming a homemaker, I’ve been able to focus more on writing—both personally and professionally. I’ve started my own blog (obviously!), and I also write for several other publications as well.

Having more time and freedom, I’m developing my craft as a writer, while exploring new ways to financially contribute to my household. I’m finding space to be a dedicated wife and mom, while still pursuing my dreams.

Still, as awesome as being a homemaker is, it’s not as simple as some may think. Because homemaking—like most significant roles—requires a great deal of practice, dedication, skills, and sacrifice.

Being a homemaker isn’t for everyone—as we each have our own unique journey. But for now, it is the chosen path for me. Little by little, I’m embracing the humble art of homemaking and slowly redefining what happiness means to me.

It is a very nice article. I’m a homemaker, too, and I enjoy this position. But I never have slow mornings, even on weekends. Maybe when my kids go to college. )

I totally understand, Olga! “Most” of my mornings are generally slower because my daughter has gotten older and more independent, but sometimes it can still get pretty busy depending on what’s going on in our lives.

I absolutely adored being a homemaker in my children’s early years. Especially before they started school, we were able to take it so easy. We had annual passes to the theme parks too, so we had such great times!!

    1. Sheenia Denae Avatar

Sounds amazing, Dana! It was the opposite for me. When my daughter was smaller, I was always working/busy. So, I’m grateful that I get to make up for lost time in a sense. She’s a teen now, but it’s awesome. We do a lot of cool stuff together. ❤️
