Are you ready to invite more calm into your life? At times, life can be stressful and full of challenging situations. In this post, I’ll share with you five habits for cultivating a calm mindset to help you invite more peace into your life. These tips have personally helped me transform my thinking and behavioral patterns over the years. And I hope they benefit you on your journey as well.
1. Have a Morning and Evening Self-Care Routine
Creating a morning and evening self-care routine is a great habit to have so you can fill up your cup before going out into the world and before going to bed. Additionally, the habit of doing a morning and nightly self-care routine can help you cultivate a calm mindset as you go throughout your day.
For your morning self-care routine, you can try prioritizing activities that make you feel good, grounded and present. Additionally, in your nightly routine, you can try practices that help you mentally, emotionally and physically wash the day away so you can relax and start the next day with a ‘cleaner’ and calmer state of mind. 2. Practice Gratitude for Everything You Do Have
Focusing on everything you do have—instead of everything you don’t—is a fantastic way to stay in the present moment during challenging situations. Creating a habit of gratitude can not only increase your calm but increase your overall satisfaction for life too.
Some ways that you can incorporate gratitude into your routine is by having a nightly before-sleep gratitude prayer. For example, saying:
- Thank you for my healthy body.
- Thank you for all the amazing things I get to do each day.
- Thank you for this opportunity to live.
- Thank you for my warm and cozy bed.
- Thank you for my family and friends that truly love, care and support me.
Creating your dream life gratitude practice: Not only can you be grateful for all that you do have, but all that you don’t yet have. For example, if you’re on a path to creating a more fulfilling career for yourself, you can try practicing being grateful already that you get to do a job that feels meaningful and that makes you feel happy.

3. Focus on One Thing at a Time to Foster a Calm Mindset
Build the habit of becoming focused on one thing at a time. Finish one task before moving on to the next. This can help you cultivate a calmer, more focused and present mindset. You can see how improving my focus created not only a shift in my calm but also a shift in my happiness on my 24 Daily Habits for Happiness blog post.
Train your mind to focus more by limiting distractions and through daily practice. Overall, focusing on one thing at a time is an incredible habit that can help you feel less overwhelmed. Furthermore, giving your attention to only one thing can help you enter deep states of work, which can lead to farther progress.
4. Plan Ahead and Stay Organized
Planning ahead and staying organized can help you cultivate a calm mindset and achieve greater success. Additionally, I recommend setting goals and preparing for the future as much as possible. Creating goals and plans can improve your sense of focus and direction throughout life.
Personally, practicing these habits have improved my mindset in a multitude of ways. Since I began planning, organizing, and creating goals—I have less stress and anxiety—and I feel more optimistic about the future.
Your calm mind is the ultimate weapon against your challenges. So relax.

5. Healthy Daily Habits to Promote a Calm Mindset
Niki Korteweg, an experienced science journalist with a strong scientific background in molecular neurobiology states in her TEDx Talk that sleeping well, eating smart (the Mediterranean diet was recommended), moving your body regularly and meditating can help you protect your brain from stress. Thus, promoting a calmer you and a calmer mindset.
Maintaining boundaries with your time, space and energy is also vital in honoring your peace and becoming a happier YOU.
Here’s a list of boundaries that you can try implementing to cultivate a calm mindset:
- Saying no when you need to
- Honoring your values
- Limit and be discerning of your social media consumption
- Focus on caring more about what you think of yourself rather than what other people think of you
- Take things less personally
- Cultivate a growth mindset
- Be discerning of who you choose to surround yourself with—value your time and energy
Additionally, as you strive to create more calm in your life, I also recommend spending time in nature and practicing daily affirmations. Implementing small, healthy habits can lead to happiness and peace of mind!
